Lesson 5 - ASTM D 3359
Objective
The objective of this training unit is to give a overview of the ASTM D3359 which is the test method for measuring adhesion by tape test.
The test methods cover procedures for assessing the adhesion of coating films to metallic substrates by applying and removing pressure-sensitive tape over cuts made in the film.
Lesson 6 - ASTM D 6677
Objective
The objective of this training unit is to give a overview of the ASTM D6677 which is the test method for ‘Evaluating Adhesion by Knife’.
This test method is a quick and easy way to measure adhesion in a laboratory or in the field.
Although the test method is relatively straightforward with little equipment necessary, it should only be conducted by experienced personnel.
Lesson 7 - ASTM D 4541
Objective
The objective of this training unit is to give a thorough overview of ASTM D4541 which is the test method for determining the pull-off strength of coatings using a portable adhesion tester.
The test methods cover procedures for assessing the adhesion of coating films to metallic substrates by applying a force to a dolly attached to the coating surface by an adhesive.

The standard is widely used in coating specifications.
This unit is not a comprehensive review of the standard so the user should ensure that a copy of the standard is available and understood before use.

Objective
The objective of this training unit is to give a full and comprehensive review of the SSPC-VIS-2 standard titled ‘Standard Method of Evaluating Degree of Rusting on Painted Steel Surfaces’.
On completion of this training unit the student should be able to use the standard for inspection duties.
